Esma investigating confusion over Mifid II data

"Europe's top markets watchdog is investigating whether finance firms are correctly adhering to new regulatory requirements to make trading data public, its chief has revealed.

Steven Maijoor, chair of the European Securities and Markets Authority, told delegates at the CityWeek conference in London on Tuesday that there was a question as to whether the requirement was being "properly lived up to by markets participants".

The European Union's revised Markets in Financial Instruments Directive, enacted in January, created swathes of new trade data in a bid to bring more transparency to the region's trading venues. This data is collected by national stock exchanges and other venues registered under a so-called approved publication arrangement and is supposed to be made public 15 minutes after execution."
